1st Email
Dear Family and Friends!
This is the beginning of a long two years! The past week has been full of last minute chasing and family time with I am so thankful for! So, this is going to be a rather long email as I share with you plans that we have for Gavin the next two years. Please bare with me! I am also attaching pictures that have been taken over the past week. I hope you enjoy our family journal of this special experience!
To begin with, I am Gavin's mother, Amy Foy. I will be getting weekly emails from Gavin and then I will forward them to you all. I will be saving all the emails that he sends to me and I will be compiling a mission scrapbook for him. I am very excited about this book. I have a printing company up here that is going to be taking all emails we get, any pics he sends and we take to share with him, and anything YOU want to add too, and they are going to be printing Gavin a hard bound copy of his mission scrapbook. I am so excited for this scrapbook! I am inviting every family member and friend to send me any pictures or notes you would like to add to this scrapbook. Send these directly to this email address. If you would like to add emails that he sends directly to you, you can send me these emails as well, but mark as "Private for Gavin" and I will put them in his file and not read them. I just want this book to be something special for our special missionary.
Another thing I am starting for Gavin is a cookbook. As many of you may already know, our family loves to cook. Gavin has learned to cook a few things as he has grown up. Some things he may wish he had never had! Well, Gavin is going to be enoying the local foods of Missouri and sending me any recipes that he really loves, or he'll tell me about them and I'll search for recipe. I am going to be using the same printer and making Gavin (and anyone else who would like a copy) a cookbook. This cookbook with be Gavin specific, not just mission. I will be including recipes from his childhood and his mission. If there are any recipes that you know he has enjoyed in the past, please feel free to email me these recipes and I will include them in this cookbook.
Packages. I am just a little excited to have a missionary. I am so proud of Gavin for the choices he has made. I want to make this experience for him a special one. He has been very close to his family and I want him to continue feeling the love we have for him. Gavin and sat down and talked and I shared this idea with him and he LOVES it! Each month I am going to be sending our missionary a package. I am going to try having a theme with each package (yes I'm a weird mom), but I will also be including things in these packages that Gavin tells me he is in need of. If you would like to contribute to these packages in any way I will send your "gifts" as well. I am thinking I will try sending them by the 10th of each month. His first package will be going out to the mission home in Missouri for him to get when he arrives there. Our theme for this package is "Green" for our "Greenie Missionary." The majority of the things in this package will be green. Gavin loves handwritten (or typed) letters. If you would like to send him a letter to open, I would love to include these in these packages. You can get items directly to me in Clarkston, or to his father in Syracuse.
I have already received my first email from Gavin! I was all of one line, but it sure made my morning better! Gavin will be calling his mom for Christmas. I do not know of a time yet, but anyone who would like to join our family on Christmas day for our first missionary call is welcome to come to our home, 209 S. 100 E. Clarkston, UT. We do not know what time yet he will call. If you would like to come for this call, send me a message and I will make sure I let you know what time.
I think I have just about covered everything! We are so excited for the next two years. We are so thankful for the support and love everyone has given Gavin and our family. We know the time will go quickly (in the eternal perspective) and we want to make the most of it. Thank you again for all you do for us.
Enjoy the pictures enclosed!
Amy Foy
